What is Chemical Fogging?

Fogging is a method of applying chemical disinfectants to an areas as fog or mist. It is a method used routinely in the food and pharma industry. The purpose is to create and disperse a disinfectant fog which reaches all areas and surfaces - reducing the numbers of airborne micro-organisms and also to apply disinfectant to surfaces that may be difficult to reach. Fogging is achieved using either a static, purpose-built system in a factory area with strategically placed nozzles or, more commonly, a mobile unit. Our Team wear PPI when carrying out the service - in fact they are totally safe as they have been covered by the virus killing chemicals!

The Fogging Equipment

The equipment supersaturates the atmosphere with a disinfectant fog; the fog will reach all surfaces from ceiling to floor. Under typical conditions, fogging is carried out for a minimum of 15–30min to enable the fog to disperse and the chemical action to occur. After fogging, an additional period of 45–60min is required to allow the droplets to settle out of the air and onto the surfaces.

Vaporised hydrogen peroxide (VHP): Due to its rapid degradation into innocuous by-products, fumigation with VHP is a technique that has been widely used for disinfection of the pharmaceutical environment, including cleanrooms and production filling lines, and therefore is suitable for the most industry. Our mobile systems can be used throughout the work environment, equipment and computers are safe while the decontamination is carried out.

The Process

A typical decontamination treatment consists of three phases in a one-step process:

  • Dehumidification - where the aqueous solution is vaporised;

  • Decontamination - which consists of a steady fogging and re-circulation of the vaporised chemical to maintain the concentration and ensure all surfaces are reached to remove the virus;

  • Aeration - which is generally achieved by passing clean air into the room

When the process is complete your area is virus free and with a fresh smell. It is safe for people to work in the area knowing you have protected them from Covid19.
